Join us as a Model Risk Analyst

Brown Brothers Harriman is currently recruiting a Model Risk Analyst to help our Enterprise Model Risk Management team. You will be one of the core members of the Enterprise Model Risk Management Program providing a second line of defense for all bank models. In this role, you will get the opportunity to work with a variety of teams across the bank and gain exposure to senior leadership.

Enterprise Model Risk Management is a dynamic, technical, multi-disciplinary team within Operations Risk, performing analysis on firm-wide models, machine learning algorithms, uses of Gen AI, and transaction screening. Model risk uses applied concepts in econometrics, financial forecasting, balance sheet management, capital liquidity, and financial regulatory requirements management.

On a cyclical basis, the team undertakes validation projects to evaluate the functioning of models across all lines of business. The Analyst role will be responsible for assisting verification activities that assess technical functionality of algorithms, programming code, databases used in business processes, financial and anti-money laundering risks, as well as sanctions compliance screening.

The role requires a detail-oriented and analytical thinker with a background in computer programming and/or mathematics. The responsibilities include decomposing, evaluating, and interpreting the functionality of various computational models used across the Firm. The position requires understanding of computer programming, quantitative modeling, and the ability to grasp risk management principles.

Some of your key responsibilities include:    

  • Supporting testing execution and data/evidence management;
  • Analyzing and decomposing model functionality to assess output against requirements;
  • Maintaining testing evidence records, dashboards, and issue trackers;
  • Performing data quality and integrity analysis for model data inputs through applied data analytics;
  • Assisting model design improvements relative to industry standards and best-practices;
  • Participating in other team initiatives such as model risk training.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 3-4 years of experience in computer science (or relevant field);
  • Demonstrated programming skills in languages such as Python, R, SQL for data modeling;
  • Experience in data analysis techniques and metrics; knowledge of relational database technologies using SQL is a plus;
  • Working knowledge with Python, R, SQL, or low/no-code/LLM tools for data modeling and/or large-scale data analysis projects;
  • Strong writing and experience briefing technical findings.
