RESPONSIBILITIES

Job Information

The Data and AI Governance Manager is a leadership role responsible for designing, embedding, and continuously maturing the enterprise-wide framework that governs how data and AI are sourced, managed, protected and deployed across the organization.

Operating at the intersection of data strategy, AI risk, and regulatory compliance within a highly regulated financial services environment, the role ensures the organization's practices align with industry standards including DCAM, NIST AI RMF and ISO 42001, while proactively managing emerging AI and data risks.

The manager works in close relationships with Data & AI engineering, Risk & Compliance, Legal and Business Units to translate policies into operational practices and embed a culture of responsible data and AI use. Reporting directly to the VP, Data and AI, this role plays a pivotal part in shaping the organization’s governance posture as it scales its AI capabilities and navigates on evolving regulatory landscape.

Key Job Functions

• Strategy & Framework Design

  • Lead the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of the enterprise Data & AI Governance framework, aligned to DCAM maturity levels, NIST AI RMF core functions, and ISO 42001 requirements.
  • Own & Direct the development and lifecycle management of data governance policies, AI governance standards, data quality rules, and metadata management practices across all business domains.
  • Partner in driving the organization's AI governance roadmap, ensuring AI systems are inventoried, risk-classified, and governed through structured review and approval processes prior to deployment.
  • Define and maintain a clear governance operating model, including data stewardship accountabilities, decision rights, escalation paths, and governance council structures.
  • Explore and integrate emerging technologies, including AI, to streamline governance workflows, improve metadata curation and strengthen quality and compliance monitoring.

  Risk, Compliance & Regulatory Alignment

  • Ensure ongoing alignment with FHFA and other relevant regulations and emerging AI-specific regulatory requirements across all jurisdictions of operation.
  • Partner with Risk, Compliance, Legal, and Internal Audit teams to identify data and AI-related risks, define controls, and ensure gaps are tracked and remediated in a timely manner.
  • Monitor the organization's DCAM assessment scores and NIST AI RMF profile, conducting periodic gap analyses and preparing executive-level maturity reports for the VP, Data & AI and senior stakeholders.
  • Champion responsible and ethical AI practices, including fairness, explainability, transparency, and accountability requirements in alignment with ISO 42001 and internal AI ethics principles.

  Data Quality & Stewardship

  • Establish and embed enterprise data quality standards and measurement frameworks, working with Data Stewards across business domains to drive accountability and remediation.
  • Oversee data classification, critical data element identification, metadata management, and Collibra DIC management to ensure consistent governance across all data domains.
  • Facilitate the Data Governance Council and domain stewardship forums, preparing agenda, tracking actions, and ensuring governance decisions are documented and communicated effectively.

  Stakeholder Engagement & Culture

  • Collaborate with senior leaders across Business, Finance, Risk, Technology, and Legal & Compliance to gain buy-in, embed governance accountabilities, and resolve cross-functional data and AI governance issues.
  • Advocate for a data-literate and AI-responsible culture by developing awareness programs, training curricula, and communication strategies that build governance knowledge across the organization.
  • Influence product and technology decisions by providing governance counsel during the design and procurement of data systems, AI platforms, and third-party AI tools.

  Team Leadership & Development

  • Manage & Develop a high-performing team of five governance professionals, setting clear objectives, providing coaching, conducting performance reviews, and fostering an inclusive and collaborative team culture.
  • Allocate team capacity and resources effectively across governance tasks and initiatives, ensuring delivery against agreed milestones and outcomes.
  • Mentor team members on data governance methodologies, AI risk concepts, and industry frameworks to build internal capability and career growth.
  • Develop and manage the annual budget for the data governance team, optimizing investment across tools - for example metrics dashboard, AWS expenses, training etc.

  Reporting & Performance Metrics

  • Define and maintain a suite of governance KPIs and KRIs (e.g., data quality scores, AI risk incident rates, policy compliance rates, stewardship coverage) reported to the VP, Data & AI on a regular basis.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education   

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required 

Minimum Experience  

• Minimum 8 years of progressive experience in data governance, data management, AI governance, or risk & compliance roles, with at least 3 years in a leadership or management capacity.
• Minimum 3 years of direct people management experience.
• Minimum of 1 year of experience designing and implementing enterprise-wide AI governance frameworks.

Specialized Knowledge & Skills     

• Demonstrated experience designing and implementing enterprise-wide data governance frameworks using DCAM, NIST AI RMF, ISO 42001, or equivalent standards.
• Proven track record of managing governance programs in a regulated financial services environment.
• Experience leading cross-functional governance initiatives and operating governance bodies such as Data Councils, AI Review Boards, or Stewardship Forums.
• Hands-on experience with data governance tooling (e.g., Collibra, Alation, Microsoft Purview, or similar) and familiarity with AI/ML lifecycle management platforms.
• Strong people management skills with a demonstrated ability to build, lead, and retain high-performing teams in a matrix organization.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to influence senior executives and translate governance concepts into business value.

Pay Range $181,000 to $205,500

U.S. FinTech's pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law. Aladdin Financial Engineering (AFE)

AFE is a diverse and global team with a keen interest and expertise in all things related to technology and financial analytics.  The group is responsible for the research, development, and adoption of quantitative financial and behavioral models and tools across many different areas – single-security pricing, prepayment models, risk, return attribution, liquidity, optimization and portfolio construction, scenario analysis and simulations, covering all asset classes. The group is also responsible for the technology platform that delivers those models to our internal partners and external clients, and their integration with Aladdin.

We are seeking a hands-on Quantitative Associate to join the Portfolio Risk team within AFE. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working deeply with data and code, has strong attention to detail, and is motivated to build practical, production-ready risk models and analytics used by real investment professionals. 

This is an individual contributor role focused on quantitative research, model development, testing, and implementation. Formal project management responsibilities are not required, but the role does require strong ownership of work, critical thinking, and the ability to collaborate effectively with researchers, engineers, and stakeholders across regions. 

The Portfolio Risk team develops and maintains a broad set of analytics, including: 

• Multi-factor Linear risk models 

• Value-at-Risk (VaR) methodologies 

• Volatility and covariance matrix estimation 

• Portfolio stress testing and scenario analysis 

These models are widely used across Aladdin and directly influence investment and risk management decisions. As a result, the team places strong emphasis on model rigor, governance, scalability, and transparency. 

This role also offers the opportunity to contribute directly to the team’s AI transformation journey, particularly in applying AI and automation to modernize and scale model governance workflows. 

What You Will Do 

• Research, design, and back-test portfolio risk models using Python-based infrastructure 

• Work hands-on with large and complex financial datasets, ensuring data quality and robustness of results 

• Collaborate closely with software engineers to test, productionize, and maintain models 

• Support existing models in production, including investigation and resolution of model-related questions from internal stakeholders and clients

Model validation (60%)

• Support the Director of Behavioral Analytics Model Validation in the development and execution of overall validation work plan
• Independently validate and/or guide junior analyst(s) to validate new and existing AML, Fraud and other customer behavioral analytics models with a concentration on models used for BMO Canada, US and international lines of business. 
• Ensure the assigned validation projects are completed within required timeline and in compliance with the model risk management framework requirement.
• Provide effective challenge and communicate identified model risk to the first line model owners and developers to ensure the risk are well understood and mitigation actions are taken; escalating where necessary to senior management.

• Host regulator update meeting on assigned projects to both MV senior management and the first line model owners and developers.

• Support the MV director to identify and implement improvement to work, process and systems to ensure operational effectiveness.

We are seeking a detail‑oriented and analytically strong Non‑Model Risk Reviewer to support the independent review, challenge, and governance of non-model tools used across the organization. The Control Tester and Advisor – Data & AI Governance is responsible for executing and leading control testing activities and providing risk and control advisory support related to Data Governance and AI Governance.

This role assesses design effectiveness and operating effectiveness of controls, performs end-to-end process walkthroughs, analyzes governance artifacts, and identifies, documents, and communicates control issues. This job is responsible for leading and executing on internal control discipline and operational excellence within a Line of Business (LOB) or Enterprise Control Function (ECF). Key responsibilities include executing LOB or ECF processes and tools to drive adherence to enterprise-wide standards. Job expectations include supporting the implementation of quality assurance and quality control processes within the LOB or ECF through ongoing monitoring and testing of controls, identifying issues and control improvements for remediation, and building out actions plans and milestones.

The GT Model Governance Portfolio Manager plays a critical leadership role in strengthening the governance, oversight, and risk management of AI models, traditional models, and critical-use spreadsheets across Global Technology – Global Information Security (GT‑GIS), while also supporting broader CIO divisions. This role is responsible for ensuring end‑to‑end compliance with Enterprise AI, Model Risk Management (MRM), and Critical Use Spreadsheet Policies, including documentation, inventory management, health monitoring, reporting, and quarterly attestations. The Portfolio Manager drives the model risk strategy for Global Technology by enabling strong governance practices, proactive risk identification, and continuous improvement. As a trusted partner across technology, risk, and business stakeholders, this individual champions the responsible, compliant, and effective use of models to mitigate cyber risk and support the bank’s Defense in Depth strategy. The role blends strategic thinking with hands‑on execution and offers the opportunity to influence enterprise‑wide risk outcomes in a fast‑evolving technology and threat landscape.

Responsibilities:

• Leads the assessment of the design and effectiveness of the risk and control environment to support Client Operational Services and ensure adherence to enterprise-wide standards

• Performs monitoring and testing of controls, identifying issues and control improvements for remediation

• Leads the implementation of optimized controls and enhanced Quality Assurance (QA) practices to support business continuity efforts

• Manages the performance and productivity of team members that conduct quality inspection reviews

• Ensures timely execution of QA activities including control execution, case management, and results reporting

• Manages and reviews all operations front line unit responses for regulatory exams, internal audits, and other monitoring and inspection reviews

• Ensures accuracy of data and that relevant information is captured for inspection metrics to support governance for dashboard reporting

• Lead and execute model governance strategy for Global Technology, ensuring alignment with Enterprise Model Risk Management and Artificial Intelligence policies, standards, and regulatory expectations

• Oversee the AI, model, and critical-use spreadsheet portfolio, including model identification, health assessments, inventory management, and quarterly attestations

• Drive risk mitigation strategies to proactively address model risk issues, control gaps, and emerging risks across technology and information security domains

• Review, maintain, and enhance model documentation, tracking, reporting, and ongoing compliance processes

• Translate enterprise MRM requirements into Global Technology–specific procedures, controls, and governance frameworks

• Partner closely with technology leaders, GIS teams, and lines of business to coordinate deliverables, priorities, and governance routines

• Prepare and quality‑review executive‑level materials, metrics, and reporting for senior management and governance forums

• Coordinate cross‑divisional timelines and deliverables, ensuring commitments are met accurately and on schedule

• Define, monitor, and manage Model Risk Key Risk Indicators (KRIs) to support risk transparency and informed decision‑making

• Participate in governance forums to assess model inventory health, developer activity, and adherence to policy expectations

• Support audits, regulatory exams, issues management, and remediation efforts related to model risk and governance

• Identify and implement opportunities to streamline and enhance model risk management processes, partnering across teams to drive execution

• Manage cross‑functional governance programs and projects, balancing strategic objectives with operational excellence

Required Qualifications:

• 3+ years of recent experience in a Risk & Control, Governance, Compliance, or related environment

• Strong ability to communicate complex technical and risk concepts in clear, concise language tailored to diverse audiences

• Demonstrated accountability, ownership, and execution excellence in delivering results

• Proven experience acting as a change agent, driving adoption and alignment across diverse stakeholder groups

• Excellent collaboration and influencing skills, with the ability to motivate teams without direct authority

• Comfort operating in ambiguous and evolving environments, with strong analytical and problem‑solving capabilities

• Strategic, self‑directed, organized, and capable of operating with minimal supervision

• Ability to prioritize, coordinate, and execute against deadlines while adhering to enterprise policies and standards

• Strong critical‑thinking skills, including the ability to “connect the dots” and perform thematic risk analysis

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel)

Desired Qualifications:

• Familiarity with the Global Technology organization and enterprise technology operating models

• Strong understanding of Information Security principles, technologies, attack vectors, and associated risks

• Prior experience in Cybersecurity Operations, including exposure to incident response, privacy, or threat management disciplines

• Infrastructure domain experience within Risk, CTO, and/or Global Information Security organizations

• Strong working knowledge of the NIST Cybersecurity Framework

• Advanced understanding of security threats, vulnerabilities, exploits, malware, and digital forensics to support informed risk decisions

• Proven experience implementing Compliance and Operational Risk Program requirements, including risk assessments, control design, and issues management
