Job Description

About us:

As a Fortune 50 company with more than 400,000 team members worldwide, Target is an iconic brand and one of America's leading retailers. At Target, we have a timeless purpose and a proven strategy and that hasn’t happened by accident. Some of the best minds from diverse backgrounds come together at Target to redefine retail in an inclusive learning environment that values people and delivers world-class outcomes. That winning formula is especially apparent in Bengaluru, where Target in India operates as a fully integrated part of Target’s global team and has more than 4,000 team members supporting the company’s global strategy and operations

To match the signature style and passion of Target’s distinctive retail brand, Target Legal Affairs is a dynamic and deeply knowledgeable team of experts. Whether specializing in law, government affairs, employee relations, risk, compliance, ethics, security or food safety, we use our expertise and influence to advocate for Target, support Target’s business and mitigate risk for the company. We work with both internal and external entities on key issues that affect Target’s ability to productively, ethically and securely conduct business. Through our understanding of Target’s business models and operations, we help facilitate Target’s growth, and provide guidance that leaders rely on to make appropriate, well-informed decisions. Simultaneously, we help protect the business by applying our comprehensive understanding of risk and the law on issues that impact our brand, guests, team members, stores, distribution centers and corporate locations.

Here, you’ll enjoy working autonomously with a healthy work-life balance. Your passion for learning the business, collaborating with others and building relationships with senior leaders and key business partners that you support will be essential to tackling the ever-changing legal and risk-based challenges we face in a dynamic and fast-paced retail environment.

A role in Corporate Compliance and Ethics means providing support and managing key compliance areas for Target including stores, distribution centers and at headquarters. You will also be a part of helping Target maintain a positive work environment by coordinating efforts in its Ethics office.

Position Overview:

As a Lead Compliance Consultant at Target, you will lead enterprise-wide AI Observability and Monitoring Governance as the second line of defense within Target’s Responsible AI and Privacy programs ensuring that high-risk AI use cases have effective pre- and post-deployment evaluation mechanisms in place.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Validate that business/tool owners have implemented appropriate monitoring mechanisms.
  • Review monitoring dashboards, logs, red-teaming results, and performance trends.
  • Assess control effectiveness and identify degradation, drift, or risk creep.
  • Ensure incident escalation pathways are clear and tested.
  • Aggregate observability findings across AI use cases, identify systemic trends or recurring control weaknesses and prepare executive-ready reports for senior leadership.
  • Partner with Legal, Technology, and Risk leadership to ensure monitoring mechanisms and lifecycle evaluations align with Responsible AI and Privacy-by-Design standards.
  • Define and own reporting and presentations for department leadership, compliance committees, and governance bodies to support decision-making, influence process changes, and track Responsible AI and privacy program activities.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to business leaders to arm them with the information they need to make informed decisions on AI risk and personal information collection, use, and sharing.
  • Facilitate across functional governance forums and influence decision-making among senior stakeholders.
  • Drive continuous improvements and automation opportunities to enhance monitoring maturity and operational efficiency.
  • Engage with external RAI and Privacy networks to stay informed of emerging risks, standards and best practices.
  • Other duties as assigned.
