About the Role

Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine is recruiting an Associate Director, GenAI Evaluation & Standards to join our Data Science and Digital Health team (DSDH). This is a newly created leadership role within the Generative AI organization, reporting directly to the Head of Generative AI.

The GenAI team is deploying AI across discovery, development, regulatory, and operations to create AI assistants and agentic systems across the therapeutic areas and functions. As we scale from proof-of-concept to enterprise deployment, we need a dedicated evaluation function that defines what quality means for generative AI in a regulated pharmaceutical R&D environment, communicates the metrics effectively, and enforces that standard across every platform, vendor, and capability we build or adopt. This role owns evaluation and governance for all generative AI work across R&D.

Key Responsibilities

Evaluation Framework Design

Design and maintain evaluation frameworks for GenAI solutions spanning LLM quality, RAG performance, agent reliability, safety, and scientific accuracy.
Develop therapeutic-area-specific evaluation criteria with business teams, reflecting domain-specific quality requirements per therapeutic area and application type.
Define benchmarks for scientific validity, regulatory compliance, data quality, and operational reliability.
Establish gold-standard validation datasets and automated evaluation pipelines.

Governance and Standards

Serve as technical lead for the Evaluation & Standards Board, a cross-functional governance body for GenAI quality.
Present evaluation findings and recommendations to the GenAI Portfolio Steering Committee.
Define what “production-ready” means for GenAI in a regulated R&D environment and enforce that standard.
Set evaluation gates for product development stages: PoC, Limited Release, Scaled Product, and Product Ops.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

Partner with QMS/MLOps on the handoff from pre-adoption evaluation to production quality monitoring.
Work with therapeutic area teams on domain-specific evaluation standards.
Collaborate with Data Strategy & Products on data quality as an input to the evaluation rubric.
Engage JJIT architecture teams on platform-layer evaluation and security assessments.

Opinion Leadership and Capability Building

Contribute to the weekly GenAI Outlook newsletter, specifically the evaluation implications of frontier AI developments.
Build internal evaluation capability through training, documentation, and tooling for teams conducting assessments.
Publish evaluation standards and rubrics as reference material for the broader organization.

Team Leadership

Build and lead the GenAI Evaluation & Standards team
Attract, develop, and retain top talent in AI evaluation, quality science, and governance.
Establish a culture of scientific rigor and independent judgment within the team.

Key Qualifications

Advanced degree (PhD strongly preferred) in computational biology, bioinformatics, data science, computer science, AI/ML, biomedical engineering, applied mathematics, or related discipline.
Minimum 8 years of post-academic industry experience, with significant time in pharmaceutical or biotechnology R&D.
Hands-on expertise with generative AI systems: large language models, retrieval-augmented generation, agentic frameworks, and prompt engineering.
Demonstrated track record designing evaluation frameworks, scientific benchmarks, or quality standards for AI/ML systems.
Strong people leadership experience, including building and managing technical teams in a matrixed organization.
Excellent communication skills: ability to present complex technical findings clearly to non-technical senior stakeholders and defend unpopular conclusions.
Strategic thinking capability: ability to connect technical evaluation to business impact and organizational decision-making.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with AI/ML evaluation in regulated environments (FDA, EMA, or equivalent).

Role Description: We are looking for a Data & AI Governance Configuration Manager to join our Data & AI Governance organisation, managing a team of individual contributors and contractors on and off shore. The Configuration Manager must have demonstrated experience in leading and motivating a team of analysts and specialists (up to 5-7 people) in addition to demonstrated experience in managing large cross-organizational Data & AI Governance initiatives. Ideal candidates should have a technical background in Data & AI Governance Standards & Frameworks, Data Ownership & Stewardship, Risk Management, Regulatory Change, and Business Operations and various Data Governance tools. They must be able to thrive and succeed in an entrepreneurial environment, and not be hindered by ambiguity or competing priorities. This means not only being able to develop and drive high-level strategic initiatives, but can also roll up their sleeves, dig in and help drive change. Key Job Responsibilities and Duties: People Management: Manage a team of Data and AI Governance operations specialists and potentially contractors including ensuring people’s performance and wellbeing is balanced Help set up quarterly and yearly objectives, estimate work, manage team and personal performance reviews Mentor and coach team members Improve team routines and processes for better performance based on the state of the team. Data & AI Governance Practices: Drive the adoption of Data & AI Governance capabilities including Data & AI Literacy, data cataloging, data profiling, metadata management, data classification, data lineage, master data management, and workflows, ensuring robust governance of critical data elements. Work with the broader Data & AI Governance team to ensure the continuous roll out of improvements and evolution of compliance controls to ensure the continual maturity of Data & AI Practice at Booking. Configuration Management: Metadata Management: be responsible for working with Data & AI Governance SMEs, Architecture, Product and Engineering teams to ensure appropriate metadata configuration and management including continuous improvement opportunities. E2E Delivery & Impact: Contribute to high-complexity Data & AI governance agile delivery and high-impact initiatives independently - leading metadata design execution, testing and reporting, and final handover to business-as-usual operations. Stakeholder Management: Act as an authoritative point of contact for metadata management inquiries. You must navigate a complex stakeholder landscape, effectively engaging with cross-functional working groups and presenting strategic updates to leadership up to the VP level. Role Qualifications and Requirements: Experience Requirements: 5-8 years of relevant technical experience, with 3+ years focused around Data Governance (or 5+ years in a broader Data/Analytical role)): SQL Proficiency: Strong ability to query relational databases to validate metadata or troubleshoot integration issues. SDLC for Governance: Applying "Data Governance as Code" principles—using Git for version control of configuration scripts and managing Test, Staging, and Production environments. At least 1-2 years of experience in metadata management and 1-2 years managing data teams, including building and growing the team: Operating Model Configuration: Proficiency in defining and configuring Asset Types, Domains, Communities, and complex relationship mapping. The senior tester executes assessments with full autonomy, owns the technical relationship with client security and engineering leadership, mentors mid-level engineers and OSOC analysts, and is the recognized internal authority on offensive AI/ML testing methodology, tooling, and threat modeling. Typical Experience: 5–8+ years of offensive security experience with a deep concentration in web application and API penetration testing, plus demonstrable hands-on work testing AI/ML systems — LLM-backed applications, RAG pipelines, fine-tuned models, multi-agent systems, or production ML inference. The Sr. Manager, AI Audit & Automation designs, builds, and deploys production-grade AI and automation solutions that transform how audit work is planned, executed, and evidenced. This role is measured by what is created, what is adopted, and what is auditable not by hours logged or meetings attended. Establish performance metrics and continuously optimize deployed solutions to produce measurable, auditable improvements in audit efficiency and control evaluation quality. Produce and maintain comprehensive technical documentation: model artifacts, system architecture diagrams, validation protocols, and data lineage records that satisfy both internal audit standards and external scrutiny. Drive adoption within Internal Audit by designing user-centric implementations, translating technical concepts for non-technical audiences, and delivering hands-on training to ensure durable workflow integration. About the Role As part of the Legal & Compliance team, you will play a central role in strengthening our governance and compliance framework across security, privacy, operational risk, and emerging AI governance requirements.
